Miss Mariam Ahmed, an ND 2 student of Mass Communication Department, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, has emerged the winner of 2016 Miss Okota beauty pageant.
Mariam beat Miss Uzoka Gabrielle and Foluso Amos who emerged first and second runners-up respectively.The beauty pageant held at Ayase hall, Arigidi-Akoko, Ondo State, had 17 contestants who went through various appearances and dance sessions.
Following several physical and mental exercises, it was apparently a tough moment for the judges, who found the three finalists almost at par; but at the end it was Miss Mariam who carried the day amid screams from the audience.
Miss Mariam takes over from the former Miss Okota.The national coordinator, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and chief promoter of Olokun Festival, Otunba Gani Adams in his words, cleared air on impressions some people are having about the pageant, whereby some rumour mongers are saying whoever that emerges as the Queen will never give birth to a baby.
He said Miss Okota 2011 Beauty Queen, Miss Ayomikun Idowu gave birth to a bouncing baby boy in United States of America three months ago.
He added that Miss Okota beauty pageant is a mean of engaging the younger generation and serve as a link to their past.Also, that the future of our race is determined by the amount of education and knowledge that the youths have about the race and culture.
